I recently came across this article discussing a new light-weight AED named "Elliott." With many current AEDs weighing 3-4x or even more than the 1.3lbs Elliot AED, it would see the uses for this AED could be vast. The article specifically mentions the creator's interest in having one for his backpack while in the military, but I could imagine regular backpackers/campers, boaters, travelers of all kinds, all getting great value from a super light-weight AED.

It's supposed to be easy to use (as most AED defibrillators for sale are these days), for lay-persons. I noted the AED was tested with children as young as six and found they could safely operate it during development. Pretty awesome.
