BOILING SPRINGS, PA--A 17-year-old Cumberland County boy died in Reading Hospital after collapsing in a dormitory at Albright College, where he was attending a football camp, officials said Saturday.

Samuel GittSamuel Gitt was pronounced dead at 10:35 p.m. Friday, according to the Berks County coroner's office. An autopsy Saturday in the hospital revealed the death was not heat-related, the coroner's office said. A cause of death has not been determined pending further tests, officials said.

Gitt, a 6-foot-3, 325-pound lineman, was a student at Boiling Springs High School. He was in an Albright dormitory Friday night when he collapsed, college spokeswoman Barbara Marshall said. Albright public safety officers summoned the ambulance that took him to the hospital, she said. Coaches at the camp were vigilant about making sure students were safe and kept cool during the camp, she said.

"At this point, we don't believe the death was heat-related," she said. "The Boiling Springs team did not play during the heat of the day." The camp included sessions in air-conditioned classrooms and some outdoor practice.

Gitt had played football since middle school, was not known to have had any health problems and had undergone his mandatory physical.
