The Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation is pleased to announce the addition of two new Advisory Council members: Sarah Perman, MD, MSCE, FAHA, and Sachin Agarwal, MD, MPH. Dr. Perman is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. She is an active member of the American Heart Association, where she works both nationally and as a member of the Denver Board of Directors. Dr. Perman is currently Vice-Chair of the AHA 3CPR Council and co-chair of the Resuscitation Science Symposium. Her clinical interests are focused on post-cardiac arrest care and acute critical care in the emergency department. Her research is focused on disparities in cardiac arrest outcomes, complex decision making in post-cardiac arrest care, and neuroprognostication for comatose survivors of cardiac arrest.
Dr. Agarwal is an Assistant Professor of Neurology and Neurocritical care at Columbia University Irving Medical Center-New York Presbyterian Hospital (NYPH), NY. He is the Founder and Director of NeuroCardiac Comprehensive Care Clinic (N4C), the first of its kind in the United States. It is a “One-Stop-Shop” that offers comprehensive, multi-disciplinary, well-coordinated care for survivors of cardiac arrest. His research interests lie in characterizing the cognitive, psychological, and health behavioral dimensions of cardiac arrest survivorship, and their association with cardiovascular disease risk, functional outcomes, and quality of life. His recent initiative, NeuroCardiac Comprehensive Care for Co-survivors & Family members (N4C-F) is partnering with family members of cardiac arrest patients to develop resources and care pathways to help promote knowledge, self-care, and ways to alleviate distress among the co-survivors and bereaved family members.
“We are honored that Drs. Perman and Agarwal have agreed to serve as Advisors to the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation,” said Mary M. Newman, MS, president. “We value the opportunity to work with such renowned physicians and their teams on research designed to improve post-resuscitation quality of life for cardiac arrest survivors and co-survivors, and to support bereaved family members.”
