Rescuer(s):Christy and Riley Winkler
Christy and Riley Winkler, twin sisters and junior varsity volleyball players at Clark High School in Plano, Texas, never imagined they'd become lifesavers so soon after completing their CPR and defibrillator training.
Just one week after their certification, their quick thinking and decisive actions saved a woman's life.
One Thursday morning, after volleyball practice, the twins were leaving the school when they saw a woman, Julie Coon, collapse in the parking lot. Without hesitation, Riley ran to get her sister Christy, who immediately started CPR.
Realizing Julie had no pulse, Christy continued CPR while Riley fetched an AED. Working together, they used the AED to revive Julie.
Thanks to the twins' swift response and their newly acquired CPR skills, Julie is now recovering in the hospital. Her grateful husband credits the twins with saving his wife's life.
The Winkler twins, humble about their heroism, simply stated they never expected to use their training so soon. Their story serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of CPR education and how it empowers everyday people to become heroes.
Christy and Riley Winkler's extraordinary actions make them deserving nominees for the People Saving People Award. They exemplify courage, quick thinking, and the life-saving potential of CPR training.
