Sudden cardiac arrest—when the heart suddenly stops beating—is a public health crisis. About 1,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur every day in the U.S. and only one in 10 victims survives. Most cases (70 percent) occur in the home.
Survival largely depends on immediate bystander intervention with CPR and automated external defibrillators (AEDs). AEDs are layperson-friendly lifesaving devices that can restore a normal heartbeat when used promptly. With quick CPR and AED action, five in 10 victims could be saved.
To help improve survival rates, the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation and Enerspect Medical Solutions have joined forces to spearhead the AED Readiness Project, a national initiative to increase access to AEDs.
Through this lifesaving project, interested parties may purchase a certified pre-owned AED for as little as $699 or a new AED for as little as $1099.* Certified pre-owned AEDs have been evaluated by certified biomedical engineers and tested with state-of-the-art equipment. All devices have undergone the pre-market approval process required by the FDA. They carry a one-year warranty.
The AED Readiness Project aims to help such groups as:
- Individuals who want to prepare for cardiac arrest should it occur in their homes, RVs, or boats
- At-risk individuals with medically indicated conditions
- Schools and youth sports teams
- Places of worship
- Small businesses.
