The important part is to be found in the fourth paragraph. To save you time, here's the punch line:

Because the North Hunterdon High School staff is trained in CPR and the use of Automated External Defibrillators, they were able to help one their own students, Heather Skillman, who collapsed from sudden cardiac arrest during cheerleading tryouts in April of this year.

The North Hunterdon High School cheerleading team presented a donation of more than $3,000 to the Janet Fund at the school’s football game against Voorhees High School on Oct. 6.

The fund was created in memory of Janet Zilinski, an 11-year-old Pop Warner cheerleader who suffered sudden cardiac arrest during cheerleading practice.

The Janet Fund aims to raise awareness about the importance of CPR, the placement of Automated External Defibrillators at sports facilities and to raise funds to purchase the defibrillators for schools that can’t afford one.

According to a statement read by the cheerleading team at the football game, sudden cardiac arrest is the leading cause of death in young athletes. CPR and Automated External Defibrillators can help to prevent these deaths, the statement said.

The Clinton Township Fraternal Order of Police and the Annandale Hose Company donated money to the Janet Fund. The fund will be used to provide the North Hunterdon Cheer Program with a portable “Janet Bag” that includes an automated external defibrillator and other emergency medical supplies.

October was Sudden Cardiac Awareness Month.
