The Citizen CPR Foundation and the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation conducted a public service announcement “Video Minute” Contest as part of the 2015 Emergency Cardiovascular Care Update, held December 8-11 in San Diego. The organizations recognized the best videos aimed at increasing awareness about sudden cardiac arrest, the importance of citizen CPR and automated external defibrillators (AEDs), and /or recognition of a heart attack.
Videos were reviewed, scored, and ranked using a set of evaluation criteria addressing creativity/ originality, participant engagement, awareness potential, and consistency with current emergency cardiovascular care guidelines. The judges included three representatives of each organization. The following top-ranked entries were played for 2015 ECCU attendees during plenary sessions:
- Gary Brauchla's Great Race, submitted by Kimberly Romo, Tucson Medical Center
- How to Perform CPR the Michigan Way, submitted by Robert Neumar, MD and Teri Shields, RN, University of Michigan Health System and Save Mi Heart
- How to Save a Life in 90 Seconds, submitted by Lauryn Blakesley, University of Pennsylvania Medicine
- I Was History, submitted by Bryan Platz and Bill Carson, HeartSafe Coon Rapids, MN
- Just Do CPR, submitted by Kim Harkins, Minnesota Resuscitation Consortium
- Learn CPR Now, submitted by Kim Harkins, Minnesota Resuscitation Consortium
- One Person, One Decision, submitted by Bryan Platz, HeartSafe Coon Rapids, MN.
The winners were announced during on Friday, December 11. The first runner up was One Person, One Decision. The first place winner was How to Perform CPR the Michigan Way, represented by Robert Neumar, MD. Neumar won an automated external defibrillator presented by Paula Lank of Physio-Control.
