Three runners died Sunday during the Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Marathon in Detroit, Michigan. Autopsies are expected today on Daniel Langdon, 36, of Laingsburg, near Lansing; Rick Brown, 65, of Marietta, Ohio, and Jon Fenlon, 26, of Waterford. Marathon doctors and race officials said rapid, state-of-the-art resuscitation was provided.
"These tragic incidents underscore the fact that sudden cardiac arrest can strike anytime, even in seemingly healthy individuals," said Norman Abramson, MD, Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation.
