The Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation is thrilled to announce its annual awards reception, Won’t You Be My Neighbor?...Won’t You Learn How to Save a Life?, to take place on October 7, 5:30-7:30 PM, at the Rivers Club, One Oxford Center, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The event will honor survivors of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) and the neighborly rescuers whose quick and courageous actions made the difference between life and death.
Sally Wiggin, WTAE TV news anchor, a heart patient who lost her father to SCA when she was a teenager, will serve as emcee. Jamie Dixon, University of Pittsburgh Men’s Basketball coach, who lost his sister Maggie Dixon to SCA in 2006 when she was just 28, will be keynote speaker. And Pennsylvania Rep. Mike Turzai, a strong supporter of the mission to raise SCA awareness and save lives, will also share his personal remarks.
As a special treat, David Newell, a.k.a. Mr. McFeeley from Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood, will make a guest appearance, highlighting the need for “speedy delivery” of CPR and every neighbor’s role in using automated external defibrillators (AEDs) when SCA occurs.
Entertainment will be provided by the JimmyZ Trio, courtesy of James Zalenka, CFP, The Baran James Company.
“This year’s event promises to be the best ever. We are thrilled with the caliber of speakers and guests who will share their stories and perspectives on survival, and we are honored that The Fred Rogers Company is supporting our efforts to advance the theme of ‘neighbors helping neighbors.’” – Dr. Norman Abramson, Vice-Chair of the SCA Foundation Board of Directors, and Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh
